KEWELL: I'D STAY FOREVER
Jimmy Rice 14 May 2007

Harry Kewell has revealed he'd happily spend the rest of his career at Anfield.

The winger insists he is more than content with life on Merseyside despite a difficult season on the sidelines.

"If it came around that I had to sign another contract for another five seasons, for the rest of my life, then I will, because it's a fantastic club," he said.

Meanwhile, Kewell is battling for a place in Liverpool's Champions League final squad and also hopes to represent Australian in a summer tournament.

He said: "I've rested for 11 months. I just want to start playing football, competitive games and get back into the action again.

"I've missed that and if everything goes well and Liverpool give me the go ahead, I would love to play in the Asian Cup with Australia, because I think it's a great opportunity."

FOWLER: I HAD TO FIGHT BACK THE TEARS
Jimmy Rice 14 May 2007

Robbie Fowler admits he had to fight back the tears as he waved a final goodbye to the Anfield faithful on Sunday.

The goalscoring legend, whose contract is up in the summer, made his final appearance in front of the Kop during the 2-2 draw with Charlton.

"At the end, on the lap of honour when the fans were chanting my name, it was a bit of an emotional time but I did my best to keep the tears in," said the 32-year-old.

"With it being my last game at Anfield, I'd have loved to have scored but not everything goes to plan in football.

"I have had a good career at Liverpool and today I tried not to let things get on top of me - I think it worked. I felt I did all right."

Fowler, who Rafa Benitez made captain for the afternoon, missed out on a final day goal after being substituted in the dying moments.

His standing ovation had barely lapsed when Liverpool were awarded a penalty which Harry Kewell happily stepped up to convert.

"It's just one of those things," said Fowler. "The manager has been great and I can't thank him enough for giving me a chance by bringing me back to Liverpool.

"I know what he was doing in bringing me off and getting me a good ovation from the crowd.

"But as I've said before, things don't always go to plan in football. If I was on the pitch, I'd have taken the penalty, and if we'd have won the game, it would have been better.

"But with a bit of luck, I'll be involved in the Champions League final and we'll see what happens there."

Fowler wasn't given the chance to say goodbye when his first spell at Anfield ended with a move to Leeds United in November 2001.

The striker added: "I missed saying goodbye last time and I'm glad I could to do it this time. I'd have loved to have stayed but all good things come to an end.

"Thankfully I had a decent chance of saying goodbye. I've thanked the manager and the fans have been fantastic to me, in the first spell and probably just as good the second time around."

As for what's next for one of Liverpool's all-time greats, the man himself isn't yet sure.

"I've had no offers yet. We've got another game and I'm not too worried about what's happening in the future just now. I'm just focused on the next game and that's the main priority.

"I've not even thought about my future. The next game is massive for us. I want to focus on that, and whatever happens after that we'll see.
"I don't think many people could cope if the game against Milan goes to penalties but as long as Liverpool win, no matter how, then we'll all be happy."

BENITEZ PRAISES FANTASTIC KEWELL
Steve Hunter 13 May 2007

Rafael Benitez was full of praise for Harry Kewell after his impressive performance against Charlton and said the Reds number seven could feature in his squad for the Champions League final.

Second half substitute Kewell helped create a goal for Xabi Alonso and then scored the last gasp equaliser from the penalty spot that ensured Liverpool a third place finish.

"Kewell was fantastic and he tried to beat players, had shots and scored so it was really good for us," enthused Benitez.

"Harry has been training well and we will see how he is when we go on our training camp. He is certainly in my thoughts for the final and he could be on the bench but we will see.

"The other positives to take from this game was we finished third and didn't pick up any injuries. We didn't play well and made too many mistakes defensively but the day was all about Robbie Fowler and it was fantastic to see the supporters applauding him.

"It would have been perfect had Robbie scored in front of the Kop and it was a pity we got a penalty just after he had left the pitch. I wanted Robbie to take the applause from the crowd and that is why I took him off and it was unfortunate."

ROBBIE CAPTAINS REDS IN ANFIELD FAREWELL
Lee Brown 13 May 2007

Kop legend Robbie Fowler will captain Liverpool against Charlton today in what will be his last game at what's sure to be an emotionally charged Anfield.

Fowler will leave the club when his contract expires in the summer, but Rafa Benitez has given him the chance to sign off from his adoring fans wearing the captain's armband and hopefully by scoring a goal.

Of course this might not be Fowler's last game because the Reds still have the Champions League Final to come, and Rafa has named a strong side as they warm up for that. Young Italian goalkeeper Daniele Padelli does make his debut in place of Pepe Reina though.

Liverpool - Padelli, Finnan, Arbeloa, Carragher, Agger, Riise, Zenden, Mascherano, Gerrard, Kuyt, Fowler. Subs - Martin, Hyypia, Kewell, Alonso, Crouch.

COME ON, FOWLER!!

KEWELL: I'M FEELING FITTER THAN EVER
Paul Eaton 11 May 2007

Harry Kewell has declared himself fit and ready to aid Liverpool's quest for Champions League glory.

The Australian midfielder kicked his first ball of the season as a substitute against Fulham last week and could play a part in the Reds' final league game of the season against Charlton on Sunday.

With the Champions League final now less than two weeks away, Kewell is hoping his return to full fitness will be rewarded with a place in the squad for Athens.

"I've been working hard over the last eight weeks," Kewell said. "We did testing the other day, everything went well. The manager's happy, the assistant manager's happy, the fitness coaches are happy, so it's literally down to the manager.

"I'm feeling as close to 100 per cent as I've ever felt before in my life, the only thing I'm missing is competitive games."

Goodbye Dudek
DUDEK: I HAVE 40,000 GOODBYES TO SAY
Jimmy Rice 07 May 2007

When Liverpool walk back into the dressing room after the final home game of the season on Saturday, a lone figure will remain standing on Anfield's hallowed turf.

For the match is not only the fans' opportunity to wave goodbye to our Athens-bound heroes, it's also their last chance to bid farewell to an Anfield legend.

It is with a heavy heart that Jerzy Dudek will leave the club in the summer, and the Pole has a little bit of unfinished business before he departs.

"I have 40,000 thank-yous to say, so it will take me a while," the 34-year-old told LFC Magazine.

"It would be nice to play in the last game against Charlton. I would get to walk around the pitch and take it all in. I could hear the fans singing again. I don't know if it will be possible, it's up to the manager when he picks the team.

"I just want to say goodbye. If it is not possible then I will be the last person left on the pitch after the Charlton game."

Dudek's decision to leave is a result not of any personal differences, nor any ill-feeling towards the club.

In fact, he insists he would have been happy to remain at Melwood for the rest of his career had he been selected to represent Poland in last year's World Cup.

He explains: "I was watching TV at home, just with Sky Sports News on in the background while I was doing some things and waiting for something else to come on – as you do.

"I actually saw a breaking news story come along the bottom of the screen: Jerzy Dudek is not going to the World Cup. I froze.

"At first I thought it was a joke from the Polish manager, but then I saw that our star striker was not going, and two other senior players were already out. It wasn't a joke.

"Something changed in me after that snub. From being happy to play here and press Pepe, I knew I had to go somewhere to play every week."

It is a sign of Dudek's loyalty to the club that he postponed his decision to leave at the request of Rafa Benitez.

"The needs of the team were more important to me than my own needs. Scott Carson was going to Charlton and the manager could not get any cover, so I stayed.

"Now I am going this summer. I am out of contract and I need to play football. I am still hungry to play and put the disappointment of the World Cup behind me.

"I know I will not move somewhere and find a nicer club than Liverpool. I love this city and love this club. If I had gone to the World Cup then I would have stayed here forever. I told Rafa that too. I would have done everything I wanted to do in my career.

"I will not play with better players or make more friends than I have here. Wherever I go from here will be a definite step down in my career."

So, what's next for one of our heroes of 2005? Well, one thing's for sure: he won't ever be coming back to Anfield as an opposition keeper.

He said: "I just can't imagine walking into Anfield on matchday, walking out of the tunnel and going down to the Kop end – and then hoping to see Liverpool lose.

"This club has been my life for five years. I have become much more than an employee – I am a fan.

"I don't know how I will feel when I walk out of this place for the last time, but I imagine it will be very emotional and I can see tears in my eyes. I am not looking forward to it at all."

YNWA, Dudek... :'(

Go For It, Harry!
BOSS: HARRY HAS FINAL CHANCE
Jimmy Rice 07 May 2007

Rafa Benitez believes Harry Kewell may be able to take part in the Champions League final in Athens later this month.

The winger, who has been out since last summer's World Cup, made his comeback as a substitute against Fulham on Saturday.

With just one fixture to play before the final on May 23, time is short for the Australian to get fully match fit.

But Benitez insists there is a chance: "It was positive to see Harry again. Maybe he will have a chance for the final. We will have time for testing him.

"We need to test him because right now you could say physically that he is fit but really you need to play, you need to tackle, and to sprint."

Meanwhile, Steve Finnan believes the return of Kewell has given the Reds a timely boost ahead of their date with AC Milan.

"I don't know whether Harry expected to play again this season but it is good that he came on and managed to get some minutes," he said. "It's great because he's been out a long time, so it is like having a new player. He might play his part in the final.

"It has been a difficult season for him with operations, so I just think he has been trying to recover.

"Probably the main objective for him is to get ready for pre-season and if he can play a few games then all well and good.

"He gives us a balance on the left-hand side and gives us competition. He can also play on the right and up front."

If you play in the finals, please... PROVE YOURSELF!! :)

Kewell's Back~!!
NINE CHANGES FOR REDS V FULHAM
Lee Brown 05 May 2007

Rafa Benitez has, as expected, made numerous changes to his Liverpool side for today's Premiership clash with Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Pepe Reina and Jermaine Pennant are the only survivors from the side that beat Chelsea on a glorious night at Anfield on Tuesday. Steven Gerrard's exclusion means Sami Hyypia, who is partnered at centre back by Gabriel Paletta, will captain the side.

Liverpool - Reina, Arbeloa, Hyypia, Paletta, Insua, Pennant, Alonso, Sissoko, Gonzalez, Fowler, Bellamy. Subs - Padelli, El Zhar, KEWELL, Hobbs, Finnan.

FINALLY~!!!
