Liverpool's incredible penalty triumph against AC Milan in Istanbul has been named the greatest ever Champions League result by a British side.
The claim was made this week by Andy Townsend, the former Republic of Ireland international, in his role as ITV's Champion League pundit.
Asked to pick his Top 10 British results in the Champions League, Townsend had no hesitation in placing the Reds 2005 success as his No.1 choice with the 2-1 home win over Juventus from the quarter-finals of the same campaign his No.5 choice.

| The Liverpool manager says the goalkeeper is in good spirits regardless of recent criticism from some quarters. "I spoke to Pepe and our goalkeeping coach about the situation while he was with Spain," said Benitez. "He was feeling confident and sure he will come back and play well. When you have a good goalkeeper, you must support him. Two years ago we backed Jerzy and Kirkland, and now we support Pepe. "As you saw with the English national team, it's hard for a goalkeeper when he makes a mistake because he's the last man. It makes a big difference. "Last season there were a lot of times when Pepe made saves which helped us win a lot of games. In this case, maybe we need to help him by playing better in defence. "It was good for him to play for Spain in midweek. He's feeling okay. Jerzy is working hard, but Pepe will play as normal." | |

Four years after our ground-breaking '100 Days That Shook The Kop', we brought you the most talked about series of the summer. '100 Players Who Shook The Kop' series – was the definitive countdown of the 100 players who have made the biggest impact at Liverpool.
Over 110,000 supporters all nominated their own personal Top 10 players in order of impact made. Since 1892 hundreds of players have represented this club but everyone has their own particular favourites so don't expect this list to be based solely on talent. The greatness of a player can be measured in many ways – obviously, his ability on the pitch is the most important, but 100 PWSTK is much more than that.
